February 2012...

  • VAN IS BEING SIGN WRITTEN ON THURSDAY 16TH FEBRUARY....HOORAY
  • Still busier than expected, so if you would like your chimney swept in the Spring, please get hold of us soon.
    SPRING IS APPROACHING 
    PLEASE NOTE...bird nesting season is approaching. We WILL NOT remove a birds nest if they are actively nesting and/or there are chicks. There are rules regarding this, so again - if you get birds in your chimney HAVE A COWL FITTED. One payment for a cowl or more than one visit by a chimney sweep AND the inability to use your fire for several weeks?

  • Have you thought about having your chimney swept earlier in the year to make sure you get it done?
    Most people feel they don't need it done until a week or so before they use it...why? If you have a bird guard on and it is swept by a reliable chimney sweep, it could be done in the August or September. If you are caught out by a cold spell like 2011, you know your chimney is safe.
    Pointless having it done early if there is no guard on though, unless you can be positive you NEVER get birds nesting and nothing has happened to prevent the chimney getting blocked. We cannot take responsibility if it is swept and then birds DO decide to nest again for example.

  • Heard of Power Sweeping? 
    It's basically a head attachment to certain types of rods operated by a drill inserted into the bottom rod. The head spins as it is inserted into the chimney 
    We investigated this method and almost bought it. However for various reasons we have decided to remain with traditional methods at present.**

** In Late 2011, we were called in by a very disgruntled client after someone had used a mechanical sweeping system. This is not in any way an attempt to discredit any company or manufacturer or an inference that the method is unsuitable for use in the chimney sweeping profession, but our policy is and always will be to provide our customers with as much information as possible to ensure the safety and care of their fires and appliances.
